Privacy Policy
Ascend turns your real training into a role-playing game. This page explains what the app collects, where it is kept and who can see it. In short: your data stays on your phone unless you sign in, we never sell it, and we never use it for advertising.
Without an account
You can use Ascend without signing in. Everything then stays in the app's storage on your phone:
- Your profile: the name you choose, your starting fitness answers (for example push-ups and run time), and, if you enter them, your weight and goal weight.
- The activities you log or that the app reads from Apple Health or Health Connect, and the progress the game works out from them.
- Your hero's look, world progress and settings.
Nothing from this is sent to us.
Health data
With your permission, Ascend reads steps, walking and running distance, workouts, sleep, weight, water and mindful minutes from Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android). It only reads; it never writes to Health. You can change these permissions at any time in the Health app or in your phone's settings.
Health data is used only to give you experience points, quests and stats in the game. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with anyone except as described under "With an account".
With an account
Signing in is optional. It lets you use the app on more than one phone and play with friends. You sign in with a code sent to your email address. When you are signed in, these are stored on our server so your phones stay in sync:
- Your email address (to sign you in).
- Your profile, as described above.
- Your activity log, including activities that came from Apple Health or Health Connect, and your game actions such as quests, world moves and your hero's look.
- Which of your phones counts your health data, and that phone's name.
Friends and leaderboards
When you are signed in, the app publishes a player card so friends can compare progress. The card contains your player name, friend code, level, rank, streak, stat levels, total and weekly experience, class, title and your hero's look. It never contains your activities or health data.
Only people you have accepted as friends can see your card. If you turn on "Show me on the global board", anyone using Ascend can see it. You can turn that off at any time.
Services we use
- Supabase stores account data and runs sign-in.
- Resend sends the sign-in emails.
- Expo delivers app updates; your phone downloads them from Expo's servers.
- Apple (TestFlight and the App Store) distributes the app.
These companies only process data to provide their service to us. Ascend has no advertising, no analytics or tracking tools, and does not track you across other apps or websites.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled on your phone. No notification content is sent through our server.
Keeping and deleting your data
Data on your phone is deleted when you delete the app. Signing out stops syncing but keeps your progress on that phone.
To delete your account and everything stored on our server, email hello@playascendrpg.app from the address you sign in with. We delete it within 30 days.
Children
Ascend is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
